KIDDA was conceived in April / May 2001
by
the four founding members, Saint (captain), Angel (vice captain), Deep
Throat (secretary) and Q (treasurer) in the lounge bar of The Bissets
Hotel in Gullane, Scotland. Originally, we refered to ourselves as "the
four fathers" but given Deep Throat's sexual preference, we're refered
to as "the three fathers and the mama!" Below is a photo of the four of
them in the
very seats where it all started.
From left to right, we have Deep
Throat, Q, Saint and Angel.
(Saint has a thing for getting a photo taken in the style of The
Untouchables!)
The idea was to gather together all of our mates with something that
will be relatively unique and noticeable. Over the course of a few
weeks many, many hours were spent either in these seats or other local
pubs designing the membership shirt.
We opted for a rugby style shirt in black. Initially the membership was
Scottish, Irish and English, so we wanted a neutral colour. It turns
out that black with a white collar and white embroidery (read on) looks
damn good! However, since gaining a load of Australian members, it
turns out that the Australian / New Zealand divide is similar to the
Scotland / England, so they have their own maroon shirts (pronounced
maaaraown if you come from Queensland)
The idea was a drinking association with a sexual twist to it ... you
know what conversation gets like in the pub ... it inevitably ends up
dirty. So the logo was born! It depicts a pint of beer (the drinking
part, obviously) and also a c0ck and pu55y to represent the sex
element. Shortly after that, the name of our merry bunch was decided,
"The Kum-a-lot International Drinking and Diving Association!".
The logo still lacked something, so as a sub-title, "All Night Long"
was chosen as it can relate to both drinking and diving.
As all rugby teams have, we decided to have a sponsor (a fictional one
obviously). For some strange unknown reason, "Fanny McCraddak's Crab
Cream" rolled off Q's tongue before anyone else had a chance to draw
breath. After the minutes of roaring laughter, we decided that the
girls in the intended group may not like that, so we opted for
FANNY McCRADDAK'S
XXX
ORIGINAL
This looks like it's either the name of a beer, or some obscure sex
toy! There must have been some unconscious thought behind this as it
turns out that Fanny Cradock was a TV chef - the first one in the UK in
fact. So, a little bit of useless information for you there!
The next part of the shirt design to evolve was the nickname. Every
member has their name in 6cm large letters across the shoulders of the
shirt on the back. Very noticable from a distance and they're a
conversation starter at least!
Obviously, we had to get more sexual connotations into the shirt
design, so without much further thought, we decided upon huge white
diamonds on the back with either

(Muff Diver)
or

(C*ck
Sucker) on the back. As it turns out, we have another couple now

(Both Ways) and

(not
really sure).
We have a couple of male

s but
are still lacking a female

to complete
the set
;-)
As the founding members, we really needed some way to distinguish us
from the rest of the members, so a monogram was created. This sits
directly under the logo. Our positions in KIDDA are depicted in these
monograms.
With all this in place, the finishing touch was to add some flags to
the arm of the shirt. The original plan was to have just members
nationality, but we chose a crossing set of flags meaning there could
be two flags the same, or two different. Some people opted for parents
nationalities, others for flags (or nationalities they like) etc. There
are currently a mixture of Scottish, Irish,
English and Australian flags.
The debut outing of the KIDDA shirts was at Deep Throat's leaving
doo on the 15th of June 2001 - he was off down south to manage a hotel,
so we had to give him a
right good send off ;-) This is a date to put in your diary as it's the
official anniversary of KIDDA!
If you ever see one of these shirts around (most likely places are
Edinburgh or Brisbane - both are big places, but you never know) you'll
recognise them instantly. Have a look at the members pages to see just
how many of us there are ... and where! Some members like Saint and Q
have more
than one shirt of course ... their civic duty ;-)
